YellowBird Wedding

because simple is beautiful

The first thing you may have noticed on October 25th was that it was cold out. Very cold. The second thing you’d notice, as you pulled up to the beautiful Timberlodge Banquet Facility was that it is an amazing spot to have a wedding. The third would have been how gorgeous and happy Tina and Brandon were. After that, you forgot all about the cold. After getting everyone wrapped up and outside, Tina met Brandon at the alter and grabbed onto his warm hands. We all laughed about the weather, but they seemed focused on the words and the moment. Including their amazing tree planting ceremony where they watered a little sapling that will make it’s home behind theirs. The rain wanted to come down, but held off as long as it could until Tina and Brandon grabbed each other for their big kiss, and then hurried on in to where the heat was! Congratulations Tina & Brandon! I feel lucky that I was able to meet you and share in your day. I like thinking of the two of you watching your tree grow everyday. Best wishes!

Saturday October 19th was a lovely day. But it was a whole lot lovelier inside the Botanical Gardens. It’s such a wonderful spot to have your wedding! It’s one thing to be surrounded by those you most love, but it’s another to be surrounded by them, AND gorgeous exotic plant life! It’s no surprise that Diana and Marlon wanted their special moment to take place there. As the violinist serenaded guests, Marlon waited with his groomsmen for Diana to give the go ahead. She was nervously pacing in the background, peeking through the curtain at guests, and waiting for the right moment. Well that moment finally arrived, and Diana was escorted out by her mother to stand next to the man she first started dating in high school! I’m pretty sure they didn’t hear much of the ceremony. They were too busy looking at each other and guests and having an all around amazed look on their faces about the moment that was taking place. And that’s just how I like it! Finally it was all sealed with a kiss and Diana and Marlon grabbed hands as husband and wife. Congratulations to both of you. Time apart doesn’t matter when it comes to true love. You found each other again because you were meant to! How cute is that?

Although it was raining at Becker Farms on Sunday October 6th, that didn’t stop Fei from trying to create the most perfect day for his bride, Wen. Family was running back and forth moving things from outside to inside, but no one seemed to mind. They just seemed happy to be there. While Fei and Wen were married before this day, they wanted to share in the magical moment again with friends and family. And no rain was going to stop that! As we all took our places, I was surprised to find myself covered in rose petals as I walked out with Fei as guests happily threw them around us. That’s a custom I could get use to! Wen looked beautiful and the happy couple smiled at each other during the whole ceremony. While I couldn’t speak to everyone at the ceremony (mostly they were speaking Chinese and sadly, I don’t know any), we could all communicate through smiles and happy looks at the couple. They made their own sun on a cloudy day. Congratulations Fei & Wen! I’m so glad you found me just a few days before your wedding, and that I was able to share it with you. Continue loving each other and being book worms, and you’ll be happy forever!

Intimate weddings help remind us what getting married is all about. It’s not about spending money you don’t have and inviting people you haven’t seen in decades, but about sharing your true feelings with the person you love. That’s why I love little living room weddings. I was lucky enough on Saturday, October 5th, to share in a beautiful, private moment with Holly and Stefanie. They’re still planning the big party come summer, but they knew that they couldn’t wait until then to put a ring on it, so they didn’t! With their two very happy (crazy) dogs, they stood in their living room before their two witnesses, and joined each other in marriage. It was a beautiful moment for two beautiful people. Although I didn’t get to meet the two of them until that day, their easy-going personalities made you feel instantly comfortable around them. Congratulations Holly and Stefanie! Thank you for letting me share in such a lovely moment.

Friday October 4th was spent at Protocol on Transit Road in Williamsville, with two amazing people that I met through the magic of the internet. I could tell that Jenny and Paul were both fun loving when I met them through the screen, but in person, it was so much more fun! Jenny seemed excited and organized, making sure everything was in order, while Paul seemed pretty nervous! After fixing a couple failing boutineers, it was time for the big moment. And what a surprise it was! One of the groomsmen came out dancing! Like really dancing! He had his moves choreographed and it was fantastic. The guests looked shocked and excited and were clapping and laughing and having a great time. By the time Jenny made her way up to Paul, he had a nice flush going on. I love nervous grooms! The ceremony was sweet and simple and they both looked so happy and relieved when it was time to kiss! Congratulations Paul and Jenny! I’m so glad I got to really meet both of you and share in such a fun wedding day. All my best!

Again, the rain on September 21st wasn’t stopping anyone from feeling the love. Especially not Maria and Eric at the stunning Hotel @ the Lafayette. How can anyone feel anything but lovely in such a gorgeous building? Maria waited in her hotel room for the moment when she would be joined with Eric. And when she did, man oh man, did she look beautiful! They stood between their bridal party as they read their own vows and promised to love each other forever. They then invited their moms up for their unity candle ceremony so that their last kiss as single people would be from the people who gave them their first kiss in the world. I’ve never heard such a collective “Awww” from an audience as I did at that moment. It was a beautiful event for a beautiful couple. Congratulations Eric and Maria. I’m so glad after all those years your paths finally crossed!

Saturday September 21st was a rainy day, but the best kind! Not only were the streets covered with gigantic puddles, but there was still a warm breeze in the air. Over at Karpeles Manuscript Museum, Danielle sure didn’t care at all. The first thing she said to me was “I wish I could go jump in puddles!” She looked much to beautiful for that though! The couple eagerly anticipated the moment, keeping separate from each other as they waited for the big reveal. Danielle and Adam got engaged at Disney, had a Disney themed runner, played Disney music for their guests, AND followed it all up with a Disney honeymoon! With people that compatible, it’s no wonder they were getting married! Finally the moment arrived and they held hands and locked eyes at the alter. Such giant smiles! I felt really happy to share in the moment with them, and it felt extra special since Danielle recently started working at the same library I do! Who doesn’t love marrying colleagues?! All the best to both Adam and Danielle. When I met you a year ago I knew you were perfect for each other, and that feeling has only intensified getting to know you better. A lifetime of happiness!

Good bye haunted Grand Island Holiday Inn, hello Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa! That’s where I was on Saturday September 14th for Sarah and Jim’s big day. The Friday before was cold. Very cold. And raining. And I’m sure the happy couple was freaking out thinking about their outdoor wedding the next day. Well talk about lucky, because the next day the temperature went up about 30 degrees and gave them a wedding day to remember. The violinist walked around serenading guests before the couple made their way down. It was so sunny out and Sarah joked about how she could barely see Jim, but that didn’t stop the tears from welling up in her eyes. And it didn’t stop Jim from getting choked up during his vows, which immediately caused everyone of the bridesmaids to choke up! It was a lovely day for a lovey couple. I wish the two of you nothing but the best and continue loving each other like you have since 8th grade!

Friday the 13th: Part II
I’m so happy I just got to type that! But really my second Friday the 13th wedding was awesome! I felt an instant connection to Lauren and Darrin when I first met them. They are my doppelganger couple and I pretty much find everything they do adorable. Their wedding was no exception. It was at my favorite spot (as you know by now), Pearl Street and it couldn’t have looked better. Including a Jason Voorhees cake topper surrounded by cupcakes from Fairy Cakes! Darrin and Lauren looked so happy when they stood next to each other with Darrin’s kids around them, that I’m pretty sure I could have said anything and they wouldn’t have noticed. They were all about each other. Smiling and laughing and joking the whole time as their guests gushed around them. I was so happy to be a part of their day and feel lucky at how many new and amazing people I get to meet every year. And they let me take home two cupcakes, so yeah, I’ve got a lot of love for them. Congratulations Lauren and Darrin! I’m so glad I met both of you and that you’re together forever. No other way made sense.

So it was Friday the 13th. But for a couples whose first date was at Fright World, this was no big deal. So on September 13th, Lindsey and Vaughan met at the ever gorgeous Karpeles Manuscript Museum to tell that world that they would love each other forever…and Back to the Future as well. Because they love that a lot. It was chilly outside with light rain, but all you could feel was the warmth from their guests who smiled and hugged and chatted excitedly about the to-be moment. When Lindsey and Vaughan did arrive (in two matching Rolls Royces) it was time for the beauty to begin. Vaughan was the smiliest groom I think I’ve had yet! They held hands and teared up as we made it through their ceremony to one giant and excited kiss! After that, they walked down the grand steps at Karpeles as their guests showered them with rose petals. What a day! Congratulations Vaughan and Lindsey. I’m so happy the two of you found someone who is somehow so different and yet so perfect for you.  A lifetime of happiness!
