YellowBird Wedding

because simple is beautiful

Just don’t call it a wedding! On November 29th, Eve and Devin were officially married at their wedding “Arrangement” in an amazing building that is part of the Pierce Arrow complex which they happily own. They aren’t a typical couple so they couldn’t have a typical ceremony! The arrangement took place in a giant space filled with items as unique as the couple: dual air streams, a motor boat, half a dozen pinball machines, and of course a blow up Frosty the Snowman. And that was just the downstairs! The upstairs was filled with light, food, sound (10,000 records), and awed expressions of guests who had probably never attended a wedding in such a space. Devin was cool and collected as he greeted guests and waiting for Eve to arrive, who when she did, make one hell of an entrance in a gorgeous black dress and a slight dance up the aisle. They joked and laughed a lot with each other (and stole numerous kisses) until the very serious ending which included the lyrics to a Milli Vanilli song. I told you they had their own style! The arrangement was followed by immediate dancing which guests joined in on. Just when I start to think I’ve seen every kind of wedding there is, I’m happily proven wrong. Congratulations Devin and Eve! I’m so happy that Carla from the extraordinary Constamagna Design recommended me and that we were able to meet. I’m also super pumped you’re moving back to Buffalo! I wish you a lifetime of love and originality.

I was a little bummed out on October 18th because it was my last wedding of the year. I decided to put a positive spin on it and give lots of love to Cindy and Barry for their day. Since then, one more wedding has been added to the year, so it worked out for everyone in the end! At the always beautiful Karpeles Manuscript Museum, I met up with Barry as family was pinning his boutineer on. He had a bit of a nervous look on his face, but he explained it was just the thought of people staring at him for so long. I reassured him it would be over soon and before he knew it they would be eating and celebrating with friends. I think he liked that idea. Barry was one of the nicest people I had ever met. He kept checking on me and then apologized for one of the trolley’s, with half the guests and the bride, running late. It was sweet, but I let him know there was no where else I would rather be. I was happy to be a part of his and Cindy’s moment. Soon it was time and we headed up to the front to wait his beautiful bride. Remember when I said how nice Barry was? Well Cindy is the exact same way and together they decided they wanted friends and loved ones at their wedding, but didn’t want to add expenses to anyone’s day, so they decided against a bridal party. Get to go to a wedding and don’t have to buy an expensive dress and dyed shoes? I’ll take it! So the two of them stood up in front of the congregation together and looked into each others eyes. I could tell Barry was a little nervous now. And so could Cindy because she grabbed his hands to comfort him. After their vows, everything got a little lighter as the ceremony ended with a reading of their choice. Oh, The Places You’ll Go, by Dr. Seuss. It was a perfect reading for a perfect couple. Congratulations Barry & Cindy! I’m so glad the internet brought us together and I wish you a lifetime of happiness!!!

I love fall. And not just because my birthday happens to fall in it (!), but because it’s so undeniably beautiful! And when you catch fall in the Catskills, it’s jaw dropping. I was so excited when Kaitlin and Randy asked me to be a part of their big day in Roscoe, NY because I had never been to the Catskills before and because they were just awesome. Seriously awesome. And since my birthday was two days after their wedding, I made an amazing weekend out of it. October 11th was a stunning day at the Tennanah Lake Golf and Tennis Club where Kaitlin and Randy were having their wedding. It’s the highest point in Sullivan county so all you could see where the reds, yellows, and oranges of the changing leaves all around. Randy and Kaitlin both looked relaxed and excited for their big day. I headed up to their chosen spot and just took in the view. It was the perfect temperature and all of their guests looked so happy standing in the sunshine. I even met a guest from a previous wedding I had done who was very complimentary. Loved him! Soon, Randy and his groomsmen met me and we headed up to their alter to wait for Kaitlin to make her big debut. She looked beautiful when she did! She met Randy and he immediately had tears in his eyes as they held hands are looked lovingly at each other. I adore them because at one point in the middle of their ceremony they both looked over and thanked me for the words I was saying. I can’t get enough of these two! They shared their vows and I almost choked up as Kaitlin wiped tears from Randy’s cheeks. It all went so quickly and in no time they were sharing that first kiss as husband and wife! Congratulations Randy and Kaitlin. You’re an amazing couple and I’ll always feel thankful that I met the two of you and shared in your day. Thanks for getting me out to the Catskills as well! It was unforgettable!

When I first met Tami and Art, they  loved kidding around about how long they had been together and how it was taking a long time to get down that aisle. After a decade together, they decided to finally make it official (and make the dogs legitimate) by getting married on October 4th at the Avant Embassy Suite Hotel in downtown Buffalo. Being such a fun and lighthearted couple, they let me know they had something special in store for their ceremony that their guests were unaware of. When I arrived and found Art, he showed me what they had in mind and I burst out laughing. Since it had taken so long for them to arrive at this moment, when I read their vows to them and they repeated, they were going to come from a children’s book called “It’s About Time.” I knew their guests were going to love that! Not to mention their program had me in stitches. Check out the image below and you’ll see why. Tami looked just as ready as Art to start the show, so moments after checking in with her, the guitar started and a live singer began belting out “At Last” by Etta James. Seeing a pattern?! Tami walked up to meet Art and they kept making faces at and teasing each other throughout. I love moments like that. They weren’t nervous at all because they knew what they were doing. Soon it was time to pull out the book, and their friends and family loved it. After a short and sweet ceremony, it was time for the kiss and for the party! Congratulations Art & Tami! I’m so glad you found each other and realized that your friendship was meant to be more. And I’m so glad you finally made it down the aisle…at last…it’s about time.

October 3rd was exciting for me because I was heading to a brand new ceremony spot, and I had hear there would be animals. Now that’s a day! Hidden Valley Animal Adventure is a beautiful lodge and Animal Park in case you’re tired of NOT seeing goats on your wedding day. It was windy when I arrived, but that wasn’t stopping Tess and Jason from having their ceremony across the bridge and over the water on an island surrounds  by ducks and black swans! Guests were gathering in the lodge, (first guest I met was a giant grizzly bear) and preparing to bundle up for outside. You could tell no one minded though. They were just so happy to be there in that moment. Jason was very excited when I arrived and didn’t seem a tab bit nervous. He had been waiting for this moment and couldn’t wait for it to begin. Tess also seemed calm and collected, until of course we met up again as she crossed the bridge to her ceremony spot, and the tears came rushing out. It was a beautiful moment because her joy was completely out of her control. She seemed to calm a bit when she was in Jason’s hands, and then the constant gusting (and i mean gusting) wind made her laugh and relax. Wind or not, it was a beautiful moment and I was so happy to pronounce this wonderful couple husband and wife. Congratulations Jason & Tess! I’m so glad that the two of you finally got together and that Tess didn’t get lost on her way to that first date. Much love always!

This fall has been unbelievable. And you couldn’t be any happier if September was the month you chose to have your outdoor wedding. It’s always a gamble in New York, but on September 27th, it was truly a perfect day. After leaving my first wedding, I headed to Chestnut Ridge to their perfect little casino to share in Traci and Kyle’s moment. What a view! As soon as I parked the car I was dazed by what was before me. There were swings overlooking the hills and the changing trees and with the sun on your back, it made for a perfect day. Kyle was outside setting things up to make sure everything was perfect by the time Traci arrived. He didn’t seem nervous at all…well maybe about stuttering on his words, but I guaranteed him I talk slowly and he would be just fine. He seemed to cheer up even more after that. After walking around in disbelief that this was the end of September, I found Traci’s Limo and flagged them down so I could see how she was doing. She was perfect! Calm, but excited, she wasn’t nervous at all, except for her guests to see her before the ceremony. Her bridesmaids hid her as they sneaked into the casino to await the big moment. By this time, it was downright hot outside! Kyle was eager to begin, so at the stroke of 2:30, he walked up front and waited for his bride. Soon enough, Traci came out looking beautiful and instantly had tears in her eyes. They swore to love each other for all time, and even though the sun was beating into Kyle’s eyes, he managed to ignore it and focus on Traci. It was such a wonderful moment and I love seeing the happy couple tense up with excitement as I begin to pronounce them husband and wife. They know that kiss is coming! Congratulations Kyle and Traci. I knew when I first met you that you would make this a lovely day no matter what, and I was proven correct. I wish you a lifetime of happiness!

September 27th was more than just a wedding for Katie & Anthony. That’s because it was  their second wedding…to each other! Having already been married once in New York City to help expedite Anthony’s green card, they were ready to tie the knot again in front of more family and friends. Don’t think that this will be it for them though. Come next year, they are getting married a third time in the UK! Now that’s love and dedication! When I arrived at the Williamsville Meeting House, I immediately found a very jittery Anthony who said that this wedding was way more nerve racking than the first. Of course the first one required them to wait in line for 5 hours, so perhaps they were kind of numb at that point. Now though, he had loved ones around him who were so excited for this moment to take place. Soon enough, Katie arrived looking lovely, and made her way to the stage where Anthony and I were waiting. They looked happy and quite nervous when the took hands. Katie looked into Anthony’s eyes and her hands slowly began to shake and it was as if they hadn’t seen each other in ages. It was a beautiful moment and I couldn’t help from smiling at them. Soon though, the moment they were waiting for arrived and they were able to kiss and be surrounded by applause as guests beamed at being able to witness such a beautiful moment. Congratulations Anthony & Katie! I’m so glad that Katie studied abroad and met the man she was always meant to. The two of you are an amazing couple and I’m so glad that I got to be there for at least one of the weddings! Best wishes always!!!

September 26th felt like a perfect summers day. And the perfect place to take in this weather anomaly was Becker Farms with their green vineyards and blooming flowers. Sarah and Doug were both very excited about how beautiful and sunny the day was (at least Doug was until he had to stare into the sun…more on that later), and were excited to be married. I checked in with the beautiful Sarah who was calm and happy and ready to begin. She told me where to find her future husband (which happily wasn’t the group of drunk groomsmen roaming around the grounds) and I set off in search of Doug. He was in the brewery with his groomsmen nervously joking and having that one drink to calm his nerves. He seemed 100% sure of his decision though. After so many years together they were ready to have their moment in front of friends and family. Doug took a second to leave a message for Sarah on camera for her to find later, and the guys nervously talked about how Doug was playing guitar and singing for Sarah after the ceremony (swoon). Not to mention he built their Wine/Love Letter Box and card box for the occasion. Sarah nabbed a good one, and I’m pretty sure Doug felt just as lucky. Finally it was time to start and we walked out into the sunshine to wait for Sarah to be escorted out. She was a vision when she reached Doug, although it was hard for him to take it in since he was standing due west and was sort of blinded for the ceremony. It made Sarah laugh though, so it all worked out. He fought nature when it was time to look in her eyes and say his personally written vows, and with tears streaming down her cheeks, she shared hers. It was a wonderful occasion and I’m so glad I was able to be a part of it! Congratulations Doug & Sarah! You’re a perfect couple and I have no doubt that the two of you will have a long, happy life together. Much love.

Monday’s are a bummer. Unless of course you spend them at a wedding! And that’s just what I did on September 22nd at Niagara Falls. It was a little chilly at 11AM for the ceremony, but the beauty of Three Sisters Island helps you to forget that you have your coat on and realize that you’re standing on one of the wonders of the world. If Heather and Christopher were chilly, they sure fooled me because they looked nothing but happy to be there. After so many years together they were ready to make their love for each other official. So much so that they actually planned most of the wedding before Chris even proposed! They drove many hours to have their special moment take place at a beautiful landmark and Heather’s sisters came to witness the love. We climbed up on a rock with the water rushing behind us and Heather and Chris vowed to love each other and share in each others adventures for all of time. Not only was that amazing, but it was my second kilt wedding. I seriously love kilts. After that we walked around a bit taking in the scenery, and then the happy couple went to celebrate and get warm. Congratulations Christopher & Heather! I’m so glad that the two of you found me and that I was able to bring the two of you together forever. Enjoy many more film festivals in your future!

Katie and Rob love a lot of the same things, including zoos, so when they laid their eyes on the Holimont Ski Resort, then knew that they had found the place for their wedding. And what a place it was! A gorgeous rustic building, their was a balcony for guests to watch their outdoor ceremony. A perfect day for a wedding as well, and since Rob and his groomsmen were in kilts, I’m sure they were happy it wasn’t too cold out! Katie and Rob had seen each other beforehand, but were hiding out in different spots waiting for the ceremony to start. As Katie waited upstairs with her bridesmaids, Rob chatted up guests downstairs and waited for the stroke of 5:30 to take his spot on the alter. A spot with, I might add, two perfect gourds creating a heart. I love autumn! Soon then, after two adorable ring bearers in kilts, Katie made her way down with a huge smile on her face. I was also excited that the best man was a past groom of mine! He took his new responsibilities seriously as he tied Katie and Rob’s hands together in an ancient handfasting ceremony. The binding of the hands is where the expression “tying the knot” comes from, and it was fantastic to watch. After they were untied, it was soon time for the kiss and for them to officially be husband and wife! Congratulations Katie & Rob! I’m so glad that now when you visit your next 50 zoos, you can as husband and wife!

Had to get the full kilt!
