YellowBird Wedding

because simple is beautiful

What’s better than a beautiful day and beautiful people? I really can’t think of much else (beautiful food?). And August 8th was a perfect day for Jessica and Garrett’s wedding. After arriving at the Avanti Mansion, I was pleased to learn it the other side of Avanti, and found myself gasping at a whole new space. The only thing more beautiful than the venue was Jessica! She looked very excited for the moment to be approaching and told me she wasn’t too nervous. She also looked busy trying to make her flower girl happier than she was. Update: the flower girl remained unhappy 😦
After meeting Garrett for the fist time face to face, I found him even more charming than when we first met online. He told me to make sure I guided him through the ceremony and I joked that I would abandon him out there. As if! I met his groomsmen and we waited around for guests to take their seats and the moment to begin. Perhaps guests were slow moving because they stopped to sign pieces from the Jenga that Garrett and Jessica brought! Now, whenever they play, they can be reminded of what an amazing day they had! As Jessica made her way down (with a stunning bouquet I might add), Garrett had tears well in his eyes as he saw her for the first time. They made it through the tough parts and eagerly grabbed each other for that final kiss. It was impossible not to bring a smile to everyone’s face. Congratulations Garrett and Jessica! I’m so glad that the two of you found me and that you had such a perfect day. All the best for a lifetime of being together!

August 2nd was so much fun! From the moment I showed up at the Tonawanda Castle, I knew it was going to be a special day. Not only were my favorite photographers there from Ayres Photography, but Kristin and Chris are some of the loveliest people I’ve ever met. So after the usual checking in with the venue planner and getting the marriage license, she gave me a small box and immediately I assumed they added something extra to the ceremony. Nope! It was a gift for me! That hits you in the feels right away. They had a key theme to their wedding, and now I fit right in with my new necklace.
Chris was beaming from the moment I saw him. He looked so happy! Not at all nervous, just ready to join his bride. If I thought no one could look more excited, Kristin just about beat him. First off, she looked gorgeous, but also just ready to see her love. This was probably the most crowded ceremony I’ve ever been a part of. These two are very well loved because they were packing bodies into the room long after there was room for them. There was just enough room for the talented singers who filled the room with some of the couples favorite songs. And as soon as I heard Falling Slowly from Once, I was hooked. After Chris came out with his groomsmen, Kristin met him with tears already in her eyes. The huge crowd smiled on as they laughed, grabbed hands, wiped tears from each others eyes, and after one hell of a kiss, had to do a little lipstick maintenance…on Chris! It was really a beautiful moment and I felt honored to be there. Congratulations Chris & Kristin! I wish you nothing but the best and endless happiness, although I don’t think you need any wishes. The two of you are perfect together and I’m happy to have been a part of your story.

There was a bit of a rainstorm on Saturday July 19th. And by bit, I mean constant downpour. That meant that Nicole and Steven couldn’t be married in the garden at Samuel’s Grande Manor, but had to move everything inside. When I first saw Steven, I asked how he felt about that and he said he didn’t mind, but he was upset that Nicole was upset. When I checked in with her, I asked her how she felt and she said, she didn’t mind, she was just worried that Steven was upset. Adorable! Both of them were so excited to be married, they didn’t care about a silly little thing like rain. It’s never stopped two people in love from getting married before, so why should it now! After making sure everyone was in and dry, the ceremony began with the lovely Nicole walking out. She looked nervous and happy and immediately giggled when she got to the alter. And the nervous giggles kept coming! It was one of the more adorable things I’ve experienced. Where sometimes nervous brides cry, look only at their feet, or other little ticks, Nicole would giggle anytime she felt nervous or overwhelmed. It was hard for me to not giggle! After their sand ceremony they came back holding hands and when the big moment arrived, Steven gave Nicole one of the biggest kisses I’ve ever seen! Congratulations Steven & Nicole! I’m so glad you a luck filled day which will carry into your lives forever!

Was Thursday July 17th just another boring work day for you? Well lucky for me, I was able to spend it at Becker Farms with Sara & Gillian for their mid-week wedding! Weekends are old school and weekday weddings are going strong. It really, really wanted to rain. It would start and stop as Sara tried to talk her tiny ring bearer into walking down the aisle and Gillian looked for guests. Then the rain started. And stopped. And started. And stopped. I think it was trying to hold off so a wedding could take place surround by the beauty of nature, and lucky for them, it did! When the actually ceremony began it was lovely out as Gillian walked up to meet Sara. They looked nervous, not about rain, but just about this amazing moment that they had been waiting for. After vows were said and done, and a big kiss was had, there was an immediate look of relief on both of their faces. The hard part was over, and now it was time to celebrate with friends and family! Congratulations Sara & Gillian! I’m so glad you were able to find each other and reach this moment in your lives. All the happiness in the world for the two of you!

Friday July 11th was a beautiful, warm summer evening that needed a beautiful copule to be married on it to be complete. And complete it was! Jennifer & Adam, after many years of loving together, were ready to share their big day with the world. When Adam showed up he looked calm and cool, like he was born for this moment. He did need some gentle reminders (yes Adam, you do need to have the vows on you silly), but then he looked eager to go. We waited around for Jennifer to sneak in and once she did, I’m sure every head in the Hotel Lafayette turned to look at her. She looked gorgeous! While people seemed to be nervous and rushing, worried that the wedding would start late, neither Jennifer or Adam seemed worried. They knew that in a matter of moments they would be wed, and that’s all that mattered to them. Jennifer made her way slowly down the aisle and Adam instantly had tears welling up in his eyes. I’m not sure how he managed to keep them in! Their vows perfectly summarized their love and relationship and I could see their guests lightly crying and smiling throughout. After they locked secret love letters to each other away to be opened on their first anniversary, it was time for that final kiss and a new life as husband and wife! Congratulations Adam & Jennifer! Jennifer knew from the moment she met Adam that he was the man she was going to marry and after this night, everyone knew it was meant to be. Best wishes!

Oh Wednesday wedding. You have a place in my heart for breaking up the most boring day of the week. So I was extra happy on July 9th for Kim & Chris’ beautiful Botanical Gardens wedding! You can’t help but walk around in a floral daze when you first get to the gardens. They are so beautiful and a lovely spot to tell the person you love that you can’t wait to grow old with them. Kim and Chris were gathered with their friends, looking happy but relaxed until I said it was just about time…then came the tissues! They parted ways and circled around to meet back at the alter and grab each others hands as this long awaited moment became a reality. Everyone thinks they have it under control…and then it’s time for the vows! Tears slowly streamed down Kim’s cheek, and Chris fought to keep them in as she chocked a little on her words. It was a very touching moment and anyone could see how in love they were! Afterthat there were long hugs and long kisses and an overall glow in the room. Congratuations Kim & Chris! I’m so happy a long friendship turned into forever love and that I was able to bring the two of you together!

On Saturday July 5th, Matt seemed a little nervous. And that made him all the more charming. I found him hiding out downstairs at the Tonawanda Castle and he looked ready to get the show on the road! Heading upstairs, I found Jennifer the exact same way. A couple meant to be! It was a lovely day and guests were exuberantly chatting about the wonderful couple who finally made it to this moment. As I waited up front with Matt, I was feeling his nervous energy and starting to get nervous myself. I was so excited for Jennifer to walk down that aisle! As soon as she was visible, the tears appeared on Matt’s face, which triggered tears and the maid of honors face, which almost triggered mine! It was so emotional and beautiful and I was so happy to be joining these two people together for the rest of their lives. It was short and sweet and after it was over they quickly embraced and held on extra long. Congratulations Matthew and Jennifer! You’ve been together a long time, but you created the excitement of a magical first date. All the best!

We love Independance day here in Buffalo and we love parties. So combining the two is genius! On the 4th of July, Sue and Joe decided to gather their friends and family at Templeton Landing for food, drinks, and fireworks. What a trifecta! Sue and Joe currently live in Germany after meeting in Ireland, so for being very long distance they really created a beautiful day. The weather was perfect with a breeze coming off the lake while their family happily mingled with looks of absolute joy on their faces. Sue hid from Joe while he walked around checking that everything was set to go. And I practically swooned because of his Irish accent! Soon enough it was time and Sue made her way outside to join Joe who was beaming in the sunlight. Their handwritten vows were extrememly touching and they looked so happy to finally have reached this moment. I can’t even imagine how perfect everything was in the evening when people gathered outside with delicious looking cupcakes and watched the fireworks over the lake! Perfect day for two perfect humans. Congratulations Joe & Sue! I’m so glad that you found me and that I was able to join you on such an amazing day. Enjoy that German food! lake cake

Ok I finally broke. After over 120 beautiful weddings that all really hit me in the feels, Wayne & Joe were the first couple that actually made me cry during their vows. And as I looked out at their witness and photographer who didn’t know them, but came because they were alone from out of town, I saw her crying as well. That’s how magical  June 25th was. Wayne and Joe traveled from Texas to Niagara Falls to make their 20 years of being together official. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such a happy couple! They picked a beautiful spot at the Falls with the water rushing behind them and green all around them, and promised to continue loving each other just as they had over the past two decades. As I mentioned, their hand-written vows were so unbelievably heartfelt, and since they couldn’t keep it together, I didn’t stand a chance! After pulling out their rings, the same ones they’ve been wearing for years, now newly engraved and shining, they put them on each others hands and it looked like a key going into a lock…well after a mild fight with Wayne’s stubborn ring! I’m forever thankful that people manage to find me and include me in these moments. Congratulations Joe & Wayne! I’m thrilled I met both of you and found so much inspiration in your relationship. Also, I’m strangely in the mood to watch Gone With the Wind. Thanks a lot Wayne! Much love to both of you for all time.
