YellowBird Wedding

because simple is beautiful

Although it’s nothing new, I still find myself in a state of shock, shaking my head in disbelief, that we are continuing to deny people basic civil rights. I’m outraged, disgusted, embarrassed and heartbroken that we battle each other over whether or not two people who love each other and want to commit to each other should be allowed to or not.

I, without a doubt, support gay marriage. I support people who dedicate themselves to each other. I support believing in each other and committing to love someone for the rest of your life. I’ve been honored to preside over the weddings of gay couples who happiness was contagious and beautiful.

I just wanted to remind all those lovers out there, straight or gay, that you shouldn’t have to prove anything to anyone, and I’m sorry that not everyone feels that way. This shouldn’t be a complicated issue, because really, it’s simple. And simple is beautiful.

Keep loving Buffalo. Spread that love and let it wake up the world. And remember, if you want to share your love and joy, I’d be honored to make that happen for you.

The North Tonwanda Botanical Gardens looked its most beautiful when Cassie walked down the path, tears in her eyes, to meet Jim, as her nervously swayed back and forth and kept muttering to himself with a smile on his face. It was sunny with a cool breeze and we were all very impressed with Cassie who kept it together even though everyone thought she would sob throughout. They couldn’t wait to say I do, barely letting me get the words out and cracking me up with their adorableness. Thank you for letting me be a part of this day and for being so wonderful together. All the best to Cassie and Jim!

A 6am wedding on May 5th sounded kind of daunting at first, but once everyone was gathered outside at Island Park and the sun started coming up, I knew that I had made the right decision to be a part of this day. Paul looked handsome and goofy in his orange paisley shirt and Jackie looked wonderful in her short white, ballerina sort of dress. A couple that knows how to have fun together on their wedding day, will always have fun throughout their marriage. The only competition they had for cuteness was when two geese and 35 goslings swan down the creek next to their ceremony spot! Congratulations Jackie & Paul! I wish you nothing but the best!

There may have been a chill in air in Buffalo today, but you sure couldn’t feel it at the Botanical Gardens for Steph and Tom’s wedding. It felt like a movie when Steph stepped out onto the lawn and the cloud’s parted and the sun came out! Tom couldn’t keep his eyes off Steph as she walked up to him in her amazing white top hat and handmade bouquet which had a bird on top of it! And let me tell you, I love birds!

An amazing couple, I wish nothing but the best for both of them. And I hope I get some pictures of those amazing bouquets! Congratulations again, Tom and Stephanie!!! I love you guys!

Saturday April 21st was a very special day for me. I was able to marry my dad’s best friend for the last 50 years (!) to his life partner Paul! They were two of the most handsome gentlemen I’ve ever seen and my dad looked quite dapper as the best man. They were married in a friend’s gorgeous home in Buffalo, and walked to their alter to my best friend singing At Last. After a wonderful ceremony, they danced in front of their friends to Amazed, as everyone tried not to cry all over themselves. I love you Bob and Paul and I wish you nothing but happiness and bowling in your future! Congratulations!!!

Bob and my dad!!! So adorable!

On Saturday April 7th I was fortunate enough to marry Bethany & Tyler, a couple that 20 minutes after meeting , I knew belonged together. They were married at Artisan Works in Rochester, which happens to be one of the coolest places I’ve ever been in New York State! With the boys all in Converse sneakers and the girls wearing ear to ear smiles, it was a beautiful, happy day full of tears and laughter. Thank you Bethany and Tyler for sharing your big day with me!!! Best wishes to both of you.

And some photos from Artisan Works!

Everything is popping up around springtime so why shouldn’t weddings! This is such an amazing season and I think the new buds on the trees draw people to starting a new part of their relationship. Here are some links that give tips on how to have a beautiful spring wedding. Of course, so long as the two of you are there, that’s all that really matters. ❤

If one St. Patrick’s Day wedding wasn’t amazing enough, two was the cat’s pajamas! The International Institute proved a perfect spot for a yellow school bus to pull up and drop of Erica, Jason and their party. A beautiful couple, Jason and Erica wrote their own vows that almost brought me to tears! A ceremony full of laughter and tears, I feel so lucky that I was able to be a part of it and share in the excitement of such an amazing couple. Congratulations Erica & Jason. I wish you guys nothing but the best. You both deserve it!!!

If you think St. Patrick’s Day is your favorite holiday, there’s a slight chance you don’t love it as much as Amy & Karin. A gorgeous day for an outdoor wedding, Amy and Karin showed up at Niagara Falls in green Boston Red Sox jerseys, beads, and striped green knee socks! They were smiling and adorable and ready to be wed in the sunshine. Congratulations to them both and best wishes for a long happy life together and many more St. Patrick’s Days to come!!!
